Update for Spring 2022 – Shahla Rahimzadeh is currently on leave and will not have access to email while away. She is scheduled to return in late Summer 2022. Please review the below information relevant to the Spring 2022 term:

Current Food Studies Minor students: If you have general questions regarding the Minor, you are welcome to contact Please note that this email is not checked regularly, so expect a delay in response.

Course/Study List Information for Current Food Studies Minor Students:

  1. Contract Course Submissions for Food Studies Minor students (195CE-199 Courses): If you will be completing your Capstone requirement in Spring or completing a contract course – please read below. The deadline for submission is Friday of week 2, April 8th.
    • 195CE courses: please follow the enrollment guidelines set forth by the Center for Community Engagement. You will send your completed contract to the Food Studies Graduate Student instructor who will then forward your contract for processing to the Food Studies department.
      • Intake appointments: You can begin scheduling an intake appointment week 1 of spring quarter.
    • 196-199 courses: upon receipt of all signatures, please send your signed contract to the following email address:
      • Your contract will be uploaded to a Box folder that will be accessible to the Food Studies department for review and processing.
      • Please note that you only need the signature of your faculty mentor – the department Chair’s signature, nor is the Food Studies Chair signature required.
  2. Course Substitutions for Spring quarter:
    • Graduating seniors: If you are a graduating senior for Spring 2022 and need an approved course applied toward the Minor after I am away, please email Please note that in order for the course to be applied, it must be listed on your Degree Audit Report (DAR).
    • Continuing students: If you are completing a course in Spring 2022 that has been approved for the Food Studies Minor, but it is not appearing on your Degree Audit Report, please follow up with Shahla when she returns in late summer. Substitutions for continuing students will not be made during spring.
  3. Course Petitions: Course petitions for the minor will not be reviewed during the Spring quarter. If you wish to petition a course to be applied toward the minor, please email Shahla in late summer.

Prospective Food Studies Minor students (not currently declared): Applications for the minor will not be accepted in Spring or Summer 2022. If you wish to apply, you are welcome to do so in Fall 2022. For more information, including application deadlines, please visit the Food Studies Minor website.
