CALL FOR TEACHING ASSISTANT APPLICATIONS FOR 2026-27 ACADEMIC YEAR (Fall and Winter quarters; Possibility of Spring)

Funding Opportunity for the Academic Year, 2026-27

We are looking for teaching assistants for the 2026-27 school year. Selected students will receive a 50% TAship for the Fall and Winter quarters with the possibility of continuing in Spring 2027 quarter, designing and leading a spring seminar.

Clusters are year-long, collaboratively taught, interdisciplinary and open to entering first-years only. Cluster topics are: Food & the Environment, Building Climates, Data & Justice, Race and Indigeneity in the US, Global Islam, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, America in the Sixties, Evolution of the Universe & Life, Biotechnology & Society, Sex & Gender, the Mind, and Aging. The position is a 2- or 3-quarter commitment (Fall and Winter OR Fall, Winter, and Spring).

In Fall and Winter, the TA will be responsible for 2 sections (23-25 students each). The TA will lead sections, grade exams/assignments, and perform other course-related duties.  

In addition to proficiency in their own fields, TAs should also possess flexibility in utilizing viewpoints from other disciplines, as students (and team members) will come from a variety of backgrounds. TAs are also encouraged to enroll in classes/workshops that cover teaching and writing pedagogies, curriculum development, grading metrics, etc.  

Appointment: 50% FTE, with fee remission 

While the workload may vary, the average will be 20 hours per week.

If selected for Fall & Winter, REQUIRED: 

  1. In-person attendance at lectures
  2. Team meetings:  1 hour per week 
  3. Discussion sections:  dates/times to be determined, 2 hours each (4 hours per week)  
  4. TA meeting:  dates/times to be determined (1 hour per week)  
  5. Office hours:  determined by TA (2 hours per week) 
  6. OPTIONAL: Cluster dinners/socials and other course-related activities (usually 1-2 per quarter) 

If selected for Spring, REQUIRED: 

  1. Under general supervision of the Cluster Coordinator, TAs will be responsible for the instruction of the three-hour seminar, including developing activities, assignments, etc., for the seminar 
  2. 3-hour seminar (once per week, dates/times to be determined) 
  3. Office hours: determined by TA (1 hour per week)

OPTIONAL (Strongly Recommended for all TA appointments) 

  1. Fall: English Composition 495M (2 units, 5 hours per quarter, S/U grading) 
  1. Winter: English Composition 495N (2 units, 5 hours per quarter, S/U grading) 
  1. Spring: English Composition 495O (2 units, 5 hours per quarter, S/U grading) 

Preference will be given to those with teaching experience.
