UCLA Cluster Program
Spring Quarter, 2023

We are looking for teaching assistants who will design and lead a single spring seminar that covers a topic that is relevant to the theme of one or more of the following Cluster topics: food, race and indigeneity, global Islam, political violence, America in the sixties, evolution, biotechnology and society, sex and gender, the mind, aging. Seminar Details and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a seminar syllabus in Fall 2021 by enrolling in Writing Programs’ ENGCOMP 495N course in Winter 2023. You must take this course specifically designed to aid with inclusive syllabus design.*
  • Enroll in Writing Programs ENGCOMP 495O course during the spring seminar while teaching your seminar. This course provides mentorship and class observation during spring quarter.*
  • Incorporate scaffolded writing assignments into the syllabus and balance formative and summative assessments (with consultation from Writing Programs and the Cluster Coordinator)
  • Lead an interactive, highly structured class, which is composed of one 2hr 50min class (seminar-style) each week of Spring Quarter
  • Class size of ~20 students

*Note: teaching assistants who have previously taught a seminar for the Cluster program are not required to enroll in 495N or 495O.

Preference will be given to those with teaching experience.
